Southwark’s Hidden Stories Walks is an exciting new CoolTan Arts initiative creating a network of alternative, authentic trails through London’s hidden backstories.
This tourist enterprise builds on CoolTan’s pioneering walks programmes. Generously supported by our funders, this programme will run throughout 2016 and allow volunteers to build their skills and gain experience in becoming members of the walks programme. Participants can either come and enjoy the walks, or volunteer as trainees to become fully-fledged walk leaders, developing a range of transferable, professional skills (please see volunteer opportunities for more information).
Original walks already created include: Twists and Transformations – Dickens London Borough; Seeds of Change – Rotherhithe radical non-conformists; Tramp and Caine – Cinema Icons of South London.
Through Spring 2016 CoolTan Arts will develop and launch further innovative walks including: a River Walk between Rotherhithe and Tower Bridge – Steele and Leisure ; a Walk around Brixton – Underground David Bowie;Through Bunhill and the Fringes of the City – William Blake and Defoe.
Please see our Events page for details of our upcoming Southern Hidden Stories Walks Schedule.
The Southwark’s Hidden Stories Walks project and its development has been generously supported by United Saint Saviour’s and London Catalyst, as well as donations from members of the public.
