In portraiture she has ventured to the extremes of diversity from Michael Jackson to George Mellie and in recognition of her great skills she has been entrusted to make public artworks of illustrious figures such as Oscar Wilde whose statue is now a conspicuous part of the London landscape.

Clare Allan

Cooltan Arts are delighted to welcome Clare Allan as our newest Patron.
Clare Allan spent more than a decade as a patient in the psychiatric system, before publishing her novel, Poppy Shakespeare, which takes a satirical look at mental health services and at the borders we place between ’sanity’ and ‘madness’. Poppy Shakespeare has been shortlisted for numerous awards including the Mind Book of the Year Award and the Orange prize for new writers. It is currently being made into a film, to be broadcast early next year on Channel 4. Clare also writes regularly for The Guardian on matters concerning mental health.

Sokari Douglas Camp

11 CommandmentsSokari Douglas Camp is an acclaimed sculptor whose work can be found in private and public collections around the world.  Her sculptures are inspired by her Nigerian roots and international issues. She works primarily in steel constructing large scale semi abstract figurative works. Sokari was one of the shortlisted artists for the Fourth Plinth in 2003 and collaborated in the creation of an African garden for the British Museum.  As an artist she crosses the boundary between male and female domains and blurs the boundaries between Africa and the West.

Ali Smith

Ali Smith is a writer whose work has achieved much critical acclaim. Born in Inverness, Scotland she lectured in English at Strathclyde University before becoming a full time writer. Her work has won numerous awards and two of her novels have been shortlisted for the Booker and Orange prizes. Ali Smith also writes articles for the Guardian, the Scotsman and the Times Literary Supplement.

Rosemary Schrager

Rosemary Schrager CoolTan Arts would like to welcome TV chef Rosemary Schrager and thank her for her support of our ‘Food for Mood’ cookbook project and the Largactyl Shuffle sponsored walk.

Rosemary says “The reason I support Cooltan is because it gives people with mental distress a chance to express themselves and everyone needs an outlet. Cooltan helps people increase their confidence, move on in life and achieve their full potential through creating wonderful art.”
