Transportation, hanging and storage of artwork

Transportation of artwork to and from the gallery is the responsibility of the exhibitor/s, artist/s, or organisation etc.

Exhibitors will be required to install and dismantle their exhibition in the time allocated by the gallery co-ordinator. If you need someone to help you install your exhibition, we can provide labourers at £170 a day per person.

Exhibitors are required to put back and make good the walls after the exhibition.

Exhibitors’ work must be ready to hang when brought to our site; we do not allow framing or mounting to take place on site.

Exhibitors must supply uniform labels to place on the work.

Exhibitors must frame/present their work in a uniform manner that looks professional; this must be cleared with the gallery manager. No clip frames or un-mounted art works are allowed in the gallery.

Cooltan reserves the right to limit what exhibitors are hanging, if we feel exhibitors are not behaving in a professional manner.

All Cooltan’s staff and participants must be treated respectfully, in accordance with our equal opportunities policy. It is required that the exhibitor/s participates in the gallery’s education programme; therefore, the gallery must also be treated respectfully by the work presented.

Exhibitors must provide information and an image suitable for publicity on Cooltan’s website two months before the exhibition is due to open.

March 2006 saw the grand opening of the new gallery at our new premises. Our opening exhibition featured a collection of work from all the classes we have run this year. We ran a Name The Gallery competition, which was judged by Maggi Hambling and attended by John Bird of the Big Issue, Isobel Morris of the Maudsley Hospital and Southwark’s ex Mayor, Vicky Naish. The competition was open to volunteers, participants and the general public. From this the gallery was officially named the ‘Independent Gallery @ Cooltan Arts’ in March 2006.
