We were very proud to see the Guardian feature the artwork of our Participants on its Society website on 7th October 2011, to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

Mayor of Lambeth Speaks at the 2010 Largactyl Shuffle Sponsored Walk from CoolTan Arts on Vimeo.

In this video,the Mayor of Lambeth speaks before the start of this year’s Largactyl Shuffle Sponsored Walk which marks World Mental Health Day. In his brief speech at the Maudsley Hospital, he hailed the CoolTan Arts approach of placing emphasis on the role of creativity in the alleviation of mental health problems.

CoolTan Arts organised ‘The Nutty Professors’ an art exhibition of art works by CoolTan Arts tutors. The exhibition was held at Oxford House gallery. It included paintings, drawings, sculpture and a sound installation. In this video CoolTan Arts tutors talk about their works in the exhibition.

This video shows CoolTan Arts designers at work, the models who wore the designs and moments from the catwalk. CoolTan Arts showcased its designs at the 2010 Alternative Fashion Week – an annual event organised by Alternative Arts at the Spitalfields Market in central London. This year CoolTan designs were based on the theme ‘Twisted Tartan’ – a take on the Scottish weave based on a delicate selection of silk, hand crafted garments made from fabric that has been batik and dyed using vibrant layers of colour in swirley, spikey and twisted tartan designs.

CoolTan Arts used the theme “Women That inspire You” to mark 2010 International Women’s Day. In this video women talk about women that inspire them. This also includes a historical view of the women who have lived and worked in Southwark.

This video takes you on a journey through the different realities of a state of mind exploring the relation between sound, words and visuals. The video is inspired by the soundtrack “Creatures Lost In Time”, a recording of the thoughts of CoolTan Arts participants who visited the exhibition “Walking In My Mind” at the Hayward Gallery.

This interview based video shows moments from the premiere of three CoolTan Arts productions at the BFI Southbank cinema complex. The screening of ‘Largactyl Shuffle’, ‘In the studio with Maggi Hambling’ and ‘CoolTan Arts Introduction’ was organised by CoolTan Arts and the British Film Institute.

In this clip Artist Maggi Hambling, who was given a CBE in the New Years honours list this year, is interviewed in her studio about her work, sexuality and mental health. Hambling is a patron of CoolTan Arts. She is a painter and sculptor whose work is held by the National Gallery in London, The Tate, and whose controversial statue of Oscar Wilde sits alongside Charing Cross Station in London. This short film directed by Mike Wyeld will be available for screenings in 2010.

‘In the studio with Maggi Hambling’ will feature at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival at the BFI.
