In this video,the Mayor of Lambeth speaks before the start of this year’s Largactyl Shuffle Sponsored Walk which marks World Mental Health Day. In his brief speech at the Maudsley Hospital, he hailed the CoolTan Arts approach of placing emphasis on the role of creativity in the alleviation of mental health problems.

CoolTan Arts organised ‘The Nutty Professors’ an art exhibition of art works by CoolTan Arts tutors. The exhibition was held at Oxford House gallery. It included paintings, drawings, sculpture and a sound installation. In this video CoolTan Arts tutors talk about their works in the exhibition.

This video shows CoolTan Arts designers at work, the models who wore the designs and moments from the catwalk. CoolTan Arts showcased its designs at the 2010 Alternative Fashion Week – an annual event organised by Alternative Arts at the Spitalfields Market in central London. This year CoolTan designs were based on the theme ‘Twisted Tartan’ – a take on the Scottish weave based on a delicate selection of silk, hand crafted garments made from fabric that has been batik and dyed using vibrant layers of colour in swirley, spikey and twisted tartan designs.
CoolTan Arts used the theme “Women That inspire You” to mark 2010 International Women’s Day. In this video women talk about women that inspire them. This also includes a historical view of the women who have lived and worked in Southwark.

This video takes you on a journey through the different realities of a state of mind exploring the relation between sound, words and visuals. The video is inspired by the soundtrack “Creatures Lost In Time”, a recording of the thoughts of CoolTan Arts participants who visited the exhibition “Walking In My Mind” at the Hayward Gallery.

‘Creatures Lost In Time’ is a soundtrack created out of responses by CoolTan Arts participants to the art exhibition ‘Walking In My Mind’ at the Hayward Gallery. It features seven compositions arranged and produced by sound artist Duncan Chapman and artist Victoria Turnbull. CoolTan Arts contributors are Michelle Baharier, Sharon Batt, Simon Hayes, Jenny Pestel, Brian Ring, Richard Muzira, Sahra Hassan, Maki Spanoudis, Lesley Dewhurst, Marjorie McLean, Howard Andrews, Cleo Ibberson, William Ball and Alison Westecott. The project was part of the Learning and Participation programme at Southbank Centre.
The seven compositions are:- ’Your are not children’, ’voices’, ’poems (Sharon)’, ’Simon’s piece’, ’a blind man on the beach’, ’titles (Sharon)’ and ’please don’t touch the white dots’.

Altered States is an art exhibition organised by CoolTan Arts to celebrate World Mental Health Day. The exhibition was showcased at the Dulwich Picture Gallery and includes paintings, drawings and screen prints.

This video captures moments from CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle Sponsored Walk. The annual event took place on 10 October 2009 and over 80 people came to the walk to celebrate World Mental Health Day.
From the studios at RESONANCE FM on the eve of World Mental Health Day Michelle Baharier and Kathrin Kirrman talk about the Largactyl Shuffle, the sculpture workshop and the art exhibition Altered States. The radio show also includes interviews with other CoolTan participants: Cynthia Bernheim, Roisin MacMahon, Tim Jerram, Jenny Pestel, Rossan Daskalov, William Ball, Sasha Dee and others. There are also excerpts from speeches by Claire Henderson and Bob Smith opening the art exhibition Altered states.

Margeret, an active member of Age Concern, has learned to podcast in just three short weeks. This is her piece on OAPs and London travel, which she collected from Cool Tan and the surrounding area in Elephant and Castle…definately a hoptspot for travel trials and tribulations!
In a total of nine hours tuition, not only has Margeret learned to use the portable recroding equipment but she edited the files into a string of answers used below.

Will discusses gardening on a low budget, as he has been taking care of the Cool Tan entrance which is in a blooming good state! Mohammed, a student on exchange from Tanzania, is making sandals out of old tyres with a view to giving future workshops on the tyre sandal making.
Both have tips on recycling that you won’t hear elsewhere!
