CoolTan Arts had a public launch of the ‘Anthropology’ poetry book at the Liberty festival at The Trafalgar Square on 4th of September.  We also had a stall and CoolTan Arts performed poetry in the Red Jesus Tent and the Comedy & Cabaret Space.

CoolTan Arts September Largactyl Shuffle: Artist Austin Spare – the 21st Century Blake?

Join walk leader Ari and the Largactyl walkers for a guided cultural walk through South London. Discover local artist Austin Spare, who lived and worked at Elephant & Castle and Walworth Road and whose first exhibition was held at Walworth Town Hall. Explore the local history of Southwark, visit the Austin Osman Spare exhibition at Cuming Museum on the route of the walk and uncover the history of mental health in the borough.

CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle is a guided cultural walk from the Maudsley Hospital to Tate Modern designed to encourage mental and physical wellbeing, through art, exercise, humour and history, de-stigmatizing mental distress.

The artists are all participants of workshops run for and by those whom have experienced mental distress, their work bears testimony to the exceptional power of art to transform and liberate.  Through painting, drawing, sculpture, textile and written word we see the triumphal, extraordinary and unusual exploration of our Mad Heritage.

Do you have spare time in the evenings and weekends? Do you enjoy working with people? Do you want to volunteer for a charity? Join us at CoolTan Arts as events volunteer.

CoolTan Arts is a charity set up by people with mental distress in 1996, with a focus on activity and participation we are looking for volunteers. The successful applicants will be a self-motivated with a cheerful outlook who can help ensure events run smoothly.

You must demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised and in a team, use their own initiative and communicate appropriately with a diverse range of people.
